Sleep Troubleshooting

Edited

If your Sleep data is missing, incomplete, or looks incorrect in Bevel, the issue is usually related to permissions, data sources, or device settings.

For devices that write to Apple Health (such as Apple Watch or other wearables), Bevel reads Sleep data directly from Apple Health. That means everything must be properly set up in Apple Health first.

Here’s what to check:

Confirm Sleep Data Is Showing in Apple Health

To check:

  1. Open Apple Health.

  2. Tap Browse.

  3. Tap Sleep Score.

  4. Tap Sleep.

  5. Scroll Down and Tap Show All Data.

  6. Confirm what wearable writes Sleep data to health.

Check Bevel’s Apple Health Permissions

Bevel must have permission to read Sleep data.

  1. Open Apple Health.

  2. Tap Sharing.

  3. Tap Apps.

  4. Select Bevel.

  5. Ensure Sleep permissions are enabled.

If data seems stuck or missing, try toggling permissions:

  • Tap Turn Off All (in Apple Health → Sharing → Apps → Bevel).

  • Force close Apple Health (swipe up and close it).

  • Reopen Apple Health, then tap Turn On All (in Apple Health → Sharing → Apps → Bevel).

  • Reopen Bevel and allow a few minutes for data to resync. Pull to refresh on the Home Tab.

Make Sure Low Power Mode Is Off (Apple Watch)

If your Apple Watch is in Low Power Mode, it does not collect Sleep data.

To check:

  1. Open Control Center on your Apple Watch.

  2. Confirm that Low Power Mode is turned off.

If Low Power Mode was enabled overnight, Sleep data may not have been recorded.

Allow Time for Syncing

Sometimes Sleep data needs a few minutes to sync from:
Apple Watch → Apple Health → Bevel

If you just woke up:

  • Open Apple Health first

  • Confirm Sleep appears

  • Then open Bevel. If it doesn’t show up immediately, pull down on the Home Tab to refresh.

Troubleshooting Sleep with Multiple Devices

If you use multiple Sleep-tracking apps or devices, Bevel may receive Sleep data from more than one source. This can cause:

  • Duplicate Sleep entries: Two apps/devices are both writing Sleep.

  • Overlapping Sleep sessions: Sleep periods from different sources overlap.

  • Inconsistent totals: Health combines overlapping Sleep sessions, which can result in unusually high total Sleep.

To review your data sources:

  1. Open Bevel.

  2. Tap your initials or profile picture in the top-right corner.

  3. Tap Data Sources.

  4. Select Sleep.

  5. Tap Edit in the top-right corner.

  6. Press and drag a data source to the desired position.

  7. Release to place it.

  8. Tap Save to confirm the new order.

For best results, hide all Sleep data sources except the one you’re actively using, especially if you wear multiple devices. Note that historical data from hidden sources will no longer appear.

(We recommend reviewing the How to Manage Data Sources article to ensure your setup is configured correctly and prevent conflicts between multiple sources.)

Why do I have Recovery data, but not Sleep data?

If you’re seeing Sleep data but no Recovery data, try adjusting your HRV and RHR settings. You can find these under Settings > Customization > Calculations.

Experimenting with different combinations of these settings can often resolve the issue. For example, setting both HRVand RHR to Apple Health + Entire Day works well for many users, though the best configuration may vary depending on your device or any third-party apps you’re using.

As a first step, try testing a few different combinations to see what works best for your setup.

Still Having Issues

If Sleep appears correctly in Apple Health but not in Bevel:

  1. Tap Turn Off All (in Apple Health → Sharing → Apps → Bevel).

  2. Force close Apple Health (swipe up and close it).

  3. Reopen Apple Health, then tap Turn On All (in Apple Health → Sharing → Apps → Bevel).

  4. Force close and reopen Bevel.

  5. Restart your iPhone and Apple Watch if needed.

If the issue continues, contact support and include:

  • A screenshot of Sleep in Apple Health: Apple Health → Browse → Sleep Score → Sleep → Scroll Down → Show All Data

  • A screenshot of Sleep in Bevel

  • Your device setup: iPhone model + Apple Watch model (if applicable), or any other wearable or third-party Sleep app you’re using.
